Media Art Mash Up Video

1. What I like most about my video is how the music blends together and somewhat goes with the parts in the video. Like when there is a suspencful part. I also like the sepia filter and the old film grain filter i added onto the clips. This filters make the video look like it was all filmed together unless you look closely you can notices some clips are darker and lighter than others. I also like how at the begining of the video i sped it up fast then I slowed it down when the detective was looking into the locker.

2. What I like least about my movie is the confussion. Some people may not understand what is going on in my video. I also do not like how each video clip is froma different era. Although I put different filters on them you could still tell that they were not the same by the clothes they were wearing in that time period. I also you have added maybe a few more subtitles so the viewers would know what is going on in the video. I guess i could have also added some sound effects overtop of the music at some parts.
3. Why should this be considered an art movie?

This could be considered an art movie because the ending doesn't really say if they found the girl or not. It is open ended and leaves the viewer to decidewhat they think happened. This can also be considered an art movie because there is no speaking at all, so again it leaves the views to determine what is going on.

Pans Labyrinth

1. What are 3 things that can make this movie be considered an art movie?

Some things that made me consider it an art movie are movie; that it was not highly publicized, at least not in Canada. The ending in the movie left me kinda puzzled. It was not like others where it had a definate ending it was left with an open ending. I really did not know if she was just dreaming of this whole world that she could have imagined out of her fairytail book or not. This movie had a plot that contained young children and then adults that were batteling in a war. But I would not let a 5 year old see this movie because it was a bit to graphic and rated R in some countries. Also the movie shifts from the magiccal world to the real world that is in the misdst of a war. This reasons help define Pans Labyrinth as an art movie.

2. How is this movie perhaps more creative than most mainstream movies?

This movie was really creative and out there. This movie reminded me of Naria and Bridge to Terrabithia but it took it to the next level. This movie had alot more of adult content and usually a movie is set for either children to teens or teens to adults. The whole mood for this movie was sad and scary I found. Spain was in a war and it was always raining or either gloomy in the movie.  The music in this movie adds to the tension in the atmosphere.

3. Did you like or dislike this movie overall? Please fully explain your opinion.

I did like this movie a lot. Usually I would never watch a movie in another language or I would just perceive it to be boring. But it held my intrest throughtout the whole thing and was very intriguing.  This movie did have some gore in it which was hard to watch at parts. But overall this movie was very good and it was a nice change to watch this instead of a mainstream Hollywood movie.

3D Invention: The Home in a Dome

This would be a great invention for the future because the dome creates any type of weather that you like. So if it is winter outside and you strongly dislike winter, you could be living up summer in your dome. The dome is transparent so you can still see outside the dome. The antenna on top of the dome captures rays of sunlight so you are able to adjust how bright you would like it inside of your dome. The panel on the dome is how you control it. With one push of the button your dome can be gone incase you want to take a break from it and enjoy mother nature. Another button also acts as a door so you can enter and leave the dome.

What I like about my invention is the shape of the dome and how it is transparent. I also like the idea of having like summer weather in the dome but you could be living in the North Pole.

What I do not like about my creation is the house. It is to round and should look more like a square rather than looking like something the teletubbies would live in. I found sculptris to be very difficult. My computer would freeze and I had to start over numerous times. The grass in the picture is to big if you look at it closely and makes the house look like it is small. I would have also changed the colour of the antenna.

STEP TWO: Make up a list of 3 inventions that would enrich our lives.

 1. The Pen: This invention would be for people who are not really artistic, or have trouble putting their idea’s to paper. This pen would be able to connect to your thoughts and you would be able to draw whatever you are thinking.

2. The Dome: The Dome is a dome that would be over your house and you could program it to make you have any season over your house or land at any time you want. So say it was winter out and you are a person who hates the snow and would rather be in Florida soaking up some rays, well all you have to do is set your dome to summer. The dome only covers your property so if you leave then you are out in mother natures hands now.

3. Food Tree: The food tree is a tree that you plant in your yard and within a week of planting you have food on it. The tree comes in many varieties which tells you what kinds of foods will grow on it. Or you can get the Food Tree 2.0 which lets you program it to grow any food you want. This tree is really good because it cuts down on grocery bills.

Grade 11 Media Arts Utopian Invention Design: Step One

1. Give reasons for why you think Da Vinci invented the inventions
I believe that Da Vinci invented the inventions such as the parachute and his military war crafts because he was thinking into the future. He wanted to be able to create useful things that society would have use for, even if they were not possible or useful to make during his life span.

2. Choose one of Da Vinci’s inventions, and explain why you think it has had the biggest impact on modern society.
I chose the parachute because it is the one invention on the sheet that looks the most like today’s modern parachute. This invention has had a huge impact on society because today we use parachutes for fun, like skydiving. We also use it in the military for sending supplies and for troops when they are jumping from air planes.

3D Deer

What I like about my 3D deer are the antlers, although I would have made them larger. I also like the eyes and the ears. In sculptris there is a texture that allowed you to use fur. The fur looks very realistic up close but it is hard to tell from the distance in the picture. I also made the deer have a tail. I thought it was very cute but it is not visible from this view. I do like the background but it kinda looks like he is floating on air in my opinion.

What I do not like about my deer is the body. I feel that it somewhat resembles more of a cow than a deer. By looking at the finished product I would have merged the neck more with the body and made the feet on the deer look more like hooves. I would have also used more varying colours rather than just a white, grey and two different shades of brown.

Painting.

Reflection:
When we had to find a blank picture to paint like a colouring book page, I wanted something that involved lots of colour. What I like most about this picture is the wave. The different shades of blue make it look realistic. The Pink Hibiscous flower is my favourite out of all of them because of the different shades of pink and white. I also like the hummingbird. Particularly, the tail feathers. By adding the white paint in with the black, it gave it more depth and texture. It left them looking more realistic. I also like the colours on the birds back and head. The blends of yellow, red, and green give it a boost of colour.
What I do not like about my paiting are all the flowers except the pink one. The orange, blue and purple flowers caused me alot of frustration because I could not get them to look like the pink flower which was the first one I did. Halfway through my painting i started using the blur tool instead of the smudging tool so i had to redo all of those flowers and they are still not looking the way i would have liked them too.
This paiting portrays a piece of art becaus it is a painting. To me it would seem no different if it was done on a canvas or on a computer. Technology has made it possible to do with programs such as photoshop. Photoshop lets you use use different brush strokes and textures to make your painting look almost like it was done on paper. Art can be expressed in many ways and doing it on a computer is just another way of expressing it.

Brainstorming for Rotoball Amamation.

Step 1 Brainstorm: A ball gets passed to you as you are running down the hill. You look at it, and transform it into cluster of leaves. The leaves then turn into one big leaf.  They then all fall to the ground and get raked up into a ball. The ball is then kicked to the next person.

This Masterpiece.

Reflection

1. What I liked about this picture I did was the photograph I chose. The woman is the photo is looking into a mirror and in my mind she is thinking about herself and critiquing herself on her looks. I also like the red lips because it gives the photograph a pop of colour.

2. What I did not like about this piece was the burning on the mirror. I felt like I could have done a better job on it. I also could have placed my words better so they would flow more effectively.

3. The message that this picture gives to the viewer is: What you see you in mirror may look like a masterpiece, but it can sometimes just be a part we portray. People who have a lot of wealth in their lives, may look happy to everyone else because they have everything that anyone could ever want. Such as good looks, a beautiful home, and designer clothing. But it really is what they have inside that counts. This person could really be the most miserable person in the world., but she is portraying herself as a masterpiece, which is how she wants to be seen.

My Alter Ego

Refection: What i liked most about my alter ego was all of the bright colours. My favourite part is the paint brushes in the right bottom corner that i used. They look like rays of light that makes the eye move inward to the picture.

What I like the least about my alter ego is my picture. I think that it does not flow or blend in as nice as it should. I could have added more brushes to help it blend. Another thing i would have changed would be to put a filter over the picture of the girl in the left hand corner.

One thing that I would change about my picture would be the position of the Africa continent. It just looks like it is sitting there. I would have added more brushes around it and changed the size of the picture as well. Another thing I would also change would have been my colour variations. I really stayed close just to a lot of light pinks and yellows Although, I really like those colours I think if I would have added different ones it could have increased the all round visual aspect in my picture.
